The CalWORKs Housing Support Program (HSP) was created in 2014 to help families in the CalWORKs program who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. HSP provides financial help and support services related to housing, including rental assistance, help finding housing, case management, security deposits, utility payments, moving costs, temporary shelter, legal services, and credit repair.

As of the 2023-24 fiscal year, 56 counties offer HSP, and each program is designed to meet the specific needs of the local community. You can find more information about participating HSP programs in County Fiscal Letter (CFL) 23/24-35.

Eligibility/For Whom

The Housing Support Program (HSP) helps families in the CalWORKs program who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. To make sure the funding goes to those who need it most, the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) advises counties to use most of the funds to help people who are currently homeless. For more information and details about eligibility, please check Attachment One of the All County Welfare Directors Letter from December 13, 2021.
